Are you an Expert?

by Diego
(United States)

You say you've been practicing, I'm just wondering are you like an expert? Like you could do everything on this website without breaking a sweat? Because if you can, can I see an example?

Also how long do you think I have to keep on practicing the basic chords? I already know them and gotten use to the pain, but can't exactly put them on the fret when I look away (at least not all of them).

Also should I learn scales before techniques right? So another week or so? Just need your opinion.

ANSWER

Hi Diego, you've asked three questions in one go there, let me take them one at a time...

(1) Am I an 'expert'? Well, I'm a semi-professional musician with many years of experience on the guitar and could definitely do everything on this website without breaking a sweat. The techniques and songs on my site are really aimed at beginners so anyone who's been playing for a while won't find it a problem to do most of the stuff I teach on PluckandPlayGuitar.com. It may seem hard in the beginning, but turns into second nature pretty quickly. As for an example... I'm afraid I don't have any guitar recordings on the Internet at the moment, maybe I'll record something next time I'm in the studio and post it on Youtube...

(2) Practicing the Basic chords. In reality you'll be practicing them for many months to come until switching between them becomes something you do without thinking. But don't practice the chords by themselves for too long - instead use the 'Easy Guitar Songs' E-book you can get for free on my site and practice the chords using the songs. Once you've got the 9 basic chords memorized (even though you can't play them flawlessly) move on to the next lessons...

(3) Scales and Techniques. There's no set way of doing it, but I generally recommend learning a couple a basic scales before venturing into techniques - simply because it'll help strengthening you're fingers for when you learn techniques.

Hope that Helps!
